HAPPY DAYS: ASSIGNMENT #3

=========================================
June 15th, 1959, Wednesday.
Horrible news! Some company wants to buy the land Arnold's is on! I mean, I don't know all the complete details, but Richie said that means Arnold's is going to be gone forever, and Arnold will have to go leave town! Isn't that horrible?
Arnold's has been around ever since Mum and Dad got married. Ever since I was born! I can't imagine the town without Arnold's. It's like taking away the sky, or the grass, or poodle skirts.
I hope the Fonz will be able to come up with something to save Arnold's. He's never wrong! Better him then Richie, anyway.
Joanie.
=========================================
June 17th, 1959, Friday They're going to hold a dance contest to save Arnold's! Thank goodness! I knew the Fonz would come up with something! Anyway...
I was telling Richie and his friends I heard that Pinky Tuscadero is going to judge the contest! And I was telling Richie and his friends that I heard she was gonna stop by Arnold's on her motorcycle tour to help us, when Chachi came along and said he heard that too...
Augh. Chachi.
What can I say about Chachi Arcola? He's so...smooth. He may not be completely like his cousin the Fonz, but he's so funny! He can sing, though it doesn't help the Dial Tones...and he's SO cute. I don't know how to talk to him, though! He's just...I get all nervous and my palms get sweaty and I just can't speak to him without sounding like a dumb dora! I don't know what to do, though.
After Pinky showed up, I saw the Malachis coming, and I ran into Arnold's to warn everybody. I was so scared! The Malachis are mean, scary and just generally really not good people. (I heard they went to jail three times!) I'm scared for Arnold's, but if the Malachis are involved, I don't know how this can end well.
Joanie.
=========================================
June 19th, 1959, Sunday
Mom helped me get ready for the dance contest, telling me I looked beautiful. She told me that you learn to love a person who holds on...what do you think that means? Holds onto the person they love the most? I don't know if I love Chachi, but I do really really like him.
Anyhow, when we got there, the first number was Lady's Choice, and Chachi came up to me, saying, "Hey, uh, Joanie? Well, it's, uh, lady's choice...you're a lady...I'm a...choice?" I just slowly backed away like a COMPLETE dummy. Augh! I can't believe I did that!
Pinky talked to me later, telling me to just ask him to dance, to find "the message in the music." I'm still not quite sure what that meant, but I think it means to listen to the music and just go for it. I grabbed Chachi's hand, and we danced together! It was amazing! I've never had so much fun! And later, we won a little blue ribbon! Blue's my favorite color, you know.
Anyway, after the contest, the sign with Fonzie's name came crashing through Arnold's window, and Fonzie lost his cool! He kicked the desk! After a moment, he yelled he would wrestle the Malachis! I was so happy, that Fonzie would finally teach the Malachis a lesson, but Richie just looked really mad. After we watched the Dial Tones sing, I didn't see Fonzie anywhere...but I'm really happy I got to dance with Chachi...but it's so weird! He's just not showing straight signs of liking me, too...boys are really weird.

June 21st, 1959, Tuesday
The Fonz is gone! He's gone missing, and we did a search today, but he was nowhere to be found! I'm so worried, who will wrestle the Malachis, and how will we save Arnold's?!
I'm really scared for Arnold's, and for my brother. I think he's thinking about wrestling the Malachis himself, but he'll get himself killed! He'll be an easy stick to break for them.
After everybody left, I talked to Pinky, about how we didn't need a man. I told her I was a modern woman, but then Chachi called, and of course I ran right towards him! What a dumb thing to do! What do you think Pinky thinks of me? Augh. My heart is telling me to go to Chachi, but my head is telling me to let go.
I don't know what to do.
Joanie.
=========================================
June 23rd, 1959, Thursday
Pinky came over today! She gave Mom the shot glasses, though I don't think Mom was all that pleased...
Pinky is just as hunky dory as ever, she is beautiful! I wish I could be like her one day. She doesn't need a man. Independant. I wish I could be just like her. But I like Chachi just a little bit too much...but I have an idea to show him how much of a woman I am, just like Pinky!

June 25th, 1959, Saturday
Today was the picnic! Richie wrestled the Malachis, and I was "Hot Pants" Cunningham. Those shorts I got a few years back, and never told Dad, I wore those today! It was so embarassing, though, Dad yelled at me to take it off! Mom ran over and covered me with a towel, but Chachi liked it, so HA!
Richie and Ralph wrestled the Malachis, but Richie was almost crushed into a sandwich, had it not been for the Fonz! He showed up and saved the day, even admitting he was wrong!
The Fonz is wrong, apparently.
So, Richie and The Fonz wrestled the Malachis, and they won! I feel bad for the Malachis, because they have an international name, and they were defeated on LIVE television! How embarrassing! Anyway, I think Chachi is going to ask me to the junior prom! I can't wait!
What a good day! I hope the rest of the days coming will be happy!
Joanie
=========================================
June 26th, 1959, Sunday
Chachi took me to the Junior Prom! But later, we snuck to Richie's Prom, and spied on Mom and Dad, Richie and Lori Beth and everybody else! Principal Moon's foot was set on fire by Potsie, and later, I heard Potsie yelling at his Mom to stay in the car!
Potsie is odd.
In other news, Lori Beth is going to be my sister in law! Richie proposed to her, and he didn't even finish his sentence before she said yes! Now she's gonna be my sister. I like Lori Beth and she'll be happy with Richie. There's going to be a big marriage, and they'll be happy!
I wonder if one day, Chachi will propose to me. Maybe when we're older. Joanie Arcola. Hm. Has a nice ring to it. But for now, I'm happy as Joanie Cunningham.

Personal Reflection and Goal Setting

Hello, to whoever shall be reading this blog post! (I bet it's only Ms.Bees...)
This is my entry for the assignment, hopefully not late, because it is Monday, October 13th. I hope I'm not too late? Also, may I mention this assignment will be hard to do, because at the moment Frozen is on and LET IT GO is playing. CONCEAL, DON'T FEEL, DON'T LET THEM KNOW...LET IT GO!

1. I think I do embody what a good musical theater student does. During the dancing for "Welcome to Wisconsin", I try my best to put every bit of energy I got into the routines, and even when I'm dead tired and feel like leaving, I pull it together to try and finish the dance with all the energy I've got left. And when Mrs. Keast shows us the routines, I try my best to try and learn them the best I can, paying attention, and trying to avoid talking to the others in case I miss something. Also, when we learn choreo, and I don't understand, I talk to the other students to try and learn it, talking and listening when they have a problem and they don't understand how the routine goes.

2. 1) To learn the routines and do it the best I can. See, I can't dance very well. Like, at all. So, with help of the choreography, since this is a very heavy dance show, it could improve my abilities and be able to do the routines without having to look at others for signal on what we have to do.
    2) To sing those high notes while dancing, being able to do it from muscle memory. The singing is a bit harder then I had expected (*cough, Ordinary Hero, cough*), but dancing those complicated routines, while singing those notes will definitely be a challenge. I hope to be able to do it.
    3) Having confidence in moves I do. To be able to do the moves without hesitation or stopping. I'm usually a bit skittish during choreo, because if I don't do the move right, it'll throw me off completely, so I hope to be able to do all the choreo with the right actions, and be right and confident about my thoughts.

3. I think I've grown in dancing ability, at the very least, as a carhop. And also, the singing, I used to have trouble with learning new harmonies, and definitely singing in groupings, to be able to sing softer and blend better. Blending, learning dancing routines and learning new harmonies, I think those are the areas of where I have grown

That's my entry! I hope this is acceptable and will get me a fair mark!

("Excuse me, sir, HE IS A PRINCE."
"All men do it.".) Frozen is still on, may I add.

Activity 3# Get Singing

Hey, everybody! So it's Car Hop Emily here to talk about my favorite songs from Happy Days! The Musical. (Oh, look at that. An exclamation mark)

So, listening to the soundtrack, I think my favorite songs have to be:
-Maybe It's Time To Move On
-What I Dreamed Last Night (Reprise)
-Malachis.

Well, I have loads more favorites, I love the entire soundtrack, but these four just stick out the most.
Let's talk about them:

Maybe It's Time To Move On:
This song is the sort of parting letter of the Fonz. He's found there is no other solution this time, he cannot be the hero everyone puts him up to be.
"When a hero's done his best, when the planet can't be saved
Does he look for a job at the hardware store, or find work on a road to be paved?
No. He's already gone.
Maybe it's time to move on"

He alludes himself like a hero, who can't save the planet, well, in his case, the town. He can't save Arnold's and he can't solve it himself without nearly dying, thanks to that leg. So, it's time to move on and get out of here. Get out because he cannot save them this time.

"It felt like home here, or so I thought.
I was convinced that I belonged here, maybe not!
When the legend starts to fall, you don't really wonder why
You face up to the fact, it was probably an act, he was average at best! Just a guy!
Just a guy, what a shame ('Sunday, Monday, Happy Days!')
Time to forget what's his name

Here, he faces the fact that he thought he was at home, but maybe, this time, it's not what he thinks it was. There has always been a nagging doubt at the back of the Fonz's head that he didn't belong, and this time, that he can't save them, he believes it. And that he is sure everybody is talking, saying he was an ordinary guy all along, that the Fonz is just an ordinary guy.

This song is definitely sort of emotional, carries a bit of a funny tone at times, but it's bittersweet. It leads off into "Happy Days", when Fonzie leaves, but it's just a bittersweet song. The way I see it onstage, Richie and friends are singing the song, they've closed the curtains, and when Fonzie sings that last "Maybe it's time to move on..." he begins to walk off the stage, down the aisles, as the cast engages into Happy Days! Just my opinion, however.

What I Dreamed Last Night (Reprise)
I like this one a lot better then the original one, cause there is just so much power in this one! Like, Pinkie is in it with Joanie, and Marion, and it's just a girl power song and it's great! Pinkie longing for a home style sort of life, while Marion is dreaming of a wild life, like Pinkie's. And Joanie finally being able to take the confidence she has and use it to ask Chachi to the dance, it's wonderful.
My favorite bit, though, is when there's the key change, and all the girls sing that instrumental-less bit.

I want what I want, and I want it now!
Forget what traditions of the past allow!
I want what I want, and I'm willing to fight!
Cause I want what I saw
I want what I felt
I want what I dreamed
Last night!

That bit is just great, because this is the girls saying no to tradition. A crazy, wild stunt driver can have the life of a housewife. The housewife can dream of being a national sensation. The sweet girl can ask the boy first the guys don't have to make the first move! It's just an empowering song, and I give all my luck to Alyssa, Sabrina and Tazia for the song. I bet they'll do great, and I wonder if there will be spotlights? You can use this song and put it into so many different formats, but I think stepping forward when there's the key change will be great.

Malachis
Oh, come on. This is just a great villain song. It's incredibly goofy, and the boys get to jump around the stage and be great. Like, seriously
It would be great if the Malachis just tried to break the fourth wall, pointing at the audience and make them freak out, it would be hilarious. Fourth wall breaking is always fun. Then again, Richie breaks it several times. But there is always something fun about playing villains, even if you're the chick playing the guy villain. Everyone wants the chance to play the villains, and as much as the Malachis frustrate me in this musical, they are sincerely just hilarious guys, and how they sing about being evil, and the jokes they pull. Even the ending, with the dramatic high note, it'll be more of a funny, comedic song then an evil villain song.

So, there's my thoughts for the songs! Can't wait to get this musical rolling, and yeah. Stay Happy. I don't know how to end this blog post...
Um. Yeah.

Happy Days, the Musical. Challenge 1# GET HAPPY

So, today, I watched Happy Days, Episode 11 of Season 8, "Welcome to My Nightmare."

Let's just say, I was not thoroughly impressed, but it made a mark on me.

PLOT OF THE EPISODE:
Fonzie is getting sick and tired of people asking him to do things for him, such as Mr.Cunningham nearly begging him to have his blood drawn to set an example. Or lying for a friend cause his friend's girlfriend is off her rocker. Anyhow, Fonzie grows sick of this, and then comes down with a fever. Being taken care of by Mrs.Cunningham, he turns on "Frakenstein's Monster" as he goes to sleep, and doesn't wake for nearly two days.

Though he claims he doesn't dream, Fonzie has a nightmare that his friends need him to drive out to an old fashioned castle, complete with your weird bloodsucker and hunch assistant, and they need him to drive out and fix their car. Little do they know, Mr.Vampire (let's call him that because he doesn't have a name) has it out for Fonzie. He basically holds his friends captive 'till Fonzie shows up, and explains that he wants to take Fonzie's "cool" and give it to his monster that looks a lot like Fonzie, called "Dougie". (Hell, I don't know to spell the name, alright?) "Dougie" is designed to be Mr.Vampire's wingman, and basically, to get chicks. When Fonzie arrives to the castle, he at first refuses to give his cool, but when Vampire man over here decides to electrocute his friends, he gives in. Stripped of his cool, the nightmare ends with his friends abandoning him to run after "Dougie" who has Fonzie's cool, and Fonzie wakes up, murmuring and mumbling that he's alone.

When he wakes up, we discover he's been out for about two days, and all of his friends have been covering him. With Chachi running his garage, Mr.Cunningham managing his apartment, he finds his friends will help him when he needs them, not just abandon them like he dreamed. It's just that his friends need him a little more then he needs them

SOME OF MY FAVORITE MOMENTS OF THE EPISODE:

"Maybe we just should've shaved the monkey."

Only in "Happy Days" can you find an evil vampire excitedly biting his thumb
exclaiming "WATCH THE THUMBS."

"What're you doing on the wall? Don't you know it's impolite
when you're on the wall of other's people's houses?! Sheesh!"
-Fonzie

We see Fonzie live up to his "SNAP" calling.
What I saw, from the episode, is that though Fonzie acts as though he is completely cool with everything, he has his inner doubts, his inner trials. He thinks his friends will always go to him when they need something, but other then that, he thinks that's all he's good for.
"Everybody wants something from me, then they leave me."
Especially at the end, Fonzie confesses his inner doubts and trials to Mrs.Cunningham, who tells him the truth about his friends, that they will always help him.

How will this help me get into character? I have no clue, but I assume it has something to do with freaking out every time Danton's gotta snap, and we all faint, right?
Or not.
